About Us
Land Team
They comprise of qualified search technicians, team leaders, search planners, search operators, medics and an incident commander from all backgrounds and ages.
All search technicians undertake an intensive 3-6 month training course followed by 12 month probation period. The team trains fortnightly in all seasons and weather.
Water Team
Our water team can be deployed all over the county and occasionally beyond to assist neighbouring teams.
The water team require additional training to assist the emergency services with searches of rivers and lakes and other wetland areas, as well as assisting the emergency services during flooding events. All members are qualified Swift Water Rescue & Rescue 3 SRT Technicians.
Medical Team
When a missing person is found, WCSAR is able to provide immediate First Aid.
All of our members are trained in basic life support and first aid, and a select few members are trained to be able to provide more advanced care.

Is West Cumbria Search & Cumbria government funded?
No, we receive no government funding. We rely 100% on public donations. We are eligible for some public grants.
Do members of West Cumbria Search & Rescue get paid?
This is something we are often asked. No one involved with West Cumbria Search & Rescue is paid for the service or time they provide. Everyone is a volunteers.
Can i call you direct if a member of my family goes missing?
No, We can only delpoy if requested to by Cumbria Police. We would recoment you contact the Police to report the missing person on 101 or 999 if its an emergency.
How can I help without being a member?
You can still support West Cumbria Search & Rescue without actively deploying by making a Donations either a cash donation or equipment or holding a fundraising event.
Can you provide First Aid cover at a local event/show i am holding?
Yes, we provide First Aid cover at a number of different events thoughout Cumbria every year. We do charge for this service. The fee helps us to restock any medical supplies used while providing First Aid cover at your event as well as supporting the team.
